Trip to the longest concrete dam in the world Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam

Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam is a very unusual destination for tourists in Thailand. After a 10-year construction period, this dam was opened in 2009 and from then it became a local hot spot to visit. As this destination was a part of the Blogger Thailand 2019 winners itinerary, we decided to share some impressive details and show you our photos of stunning nature from the biggest concrete dam in the world!

The dam helped to store the irrigation water from the Nakhon Nayok river and helped the nearby areas from flooding. For the citizens, this solved the problem of water consumption and acidic soil and also gave them better conditions to live in.

If you like nature and road trips, travel to Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam is a great idea. You can come here and stop by to take pictures of the many places on the way. We found out that the dam is opened from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and we wanted to start our day early so we began the trip.

As we drove to the Dam from Bangkok, it took us around 2 hours (we made some pit stops too). As you reach nearer, you witness how beautiful the dam is between the mountains and the waterfalls. You can clearly watch as it is shaded by the sun which makes it paradise from afar.

The Dam is located in Nakhon Nayok which is a fortified town. If you plan on staying in the city for a while to explore, you can book one of the lodgings. And the most wonderful thing is you can find multiple types of lodgings that have the river view too.

Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam took 10 years to build but as soon as it was completed people found it strikingly engineered. It holds the title for being the longest Dam as it is 2 km 720 m long and that is made from a certain blend of concrete. This dam generates 28 million kWh of power for the province.

We were told that Khun Dan Prakarn Chon Dam is the largest and longest roller compacted concrete dam in the world. That is truly remarkable. Another impressive record for Thailand!

As soon as we reached the dam, we were swarmed with a lot of options for what to do. The artificial lake nearby opened us options to take a cruise, golf cart or use a tram.

If you choose to go on the dam, then you can get a bus ride tour for 30 baht per person (less than $1) or you are able to rent an individual self-driving golf buggy for 350 baht (just around $10).
