The Rainbow Village is a settlement located in Taiwan’s second most populous city Taichung. This colorful place has a sad background story related to the war. Shortly, the village was created by a former soldier to save his village from demolition. He started to paint the walls and the building to get the attention of local citizens when only 11 out of 1,200 homes remained.
Besides the tearing story, this amazing cozy place is famous for its vibrantly painted houses and streets. You may even be lucky enough to meet the artist, Mr. Huang Yung-Fu, in person. People say you still can catch him painting around the village. Just look for the 96-year old grandfather with a paintbrush in his hands.
Inside the Rainbow Village, you can visit the souvenir shops and also buy local snacks such as eggs boiled in tea, ice cream, and beverages. There was a Taiwanese guy who saw us eating rainbow ice cream and walked to us to say that we have to try those delicious boiled eggs with a mild tea aroma. Well, we didn’t feel like to eat eggs after ice-cream, but we would love to try it next time!
The quirky village is one of the most colorful spots in Taiwan. We spent there a few hours, walking around, taking photos, and trying local snacks. As for us, it was a highlight of Taichung. We can’t wait to be back one day!
How to get to the Rainbow Village
Take a high-speed train to THSR Taichung station. Then go to the ground floor, find the exit with many bus timetables along the way. Find the right bus stop and take bus number 800. The bus should stop in front of the Rainbow Village but keep your eyes open. We recommend you to check Google Maps all the time to not miss the stop. Our driver didn’t speak English at all, but he kindly let us know when it was our bus stop.

ด้านในมีการบอกเล่าเรื่องราวประวัติความเป็นมาของหมู่บ้านแห่งนี้ พร้อมทั้งร้านขายของที่ระลึก และของทานเล่น อาทิเช่น ไข่ต้มชา มีคนไต้หวันเห็นเรากินไอศกรีมสายรุ้ง(เพราะมันน่ารักดี😅) แล้วเดินมาบอกว่า ยูๆ ต้องกิน ”ไข่ต้มชา” ที่นี่เค้าดังนะ อ้อ…ต้องลองสินะ! อร่อยดีเหมือนไข่ต้มมีกลิ่นชาอ่อนๆ

วิธีไป: เนื่องจากเราลงรถไฟความเร็วสูงที่ THSR Taichung นั่งรถเมลล์สาย 800 ไปลงข้างหน้าหมู่บ้านเลย เปิด google map ไว้ตลอดกันพลาด! ฮ่าๆ 😂
