When you start to look for attractions in Rayong, Thailand, you could easily find many beach recommendations, but we were surprised to discover this amazing hidden gem called the Rayong Botanical Garden. Nature here is just on another level! You can wander in the thousand-year-old forest or take a boat tour to discover local flora and fauna. We have tried both and ready to show you another unseen Thailand place!
The Rayong Botanical Garden is located in Klaeng District, Rayong Province. It was established to be the center for the study, research, and collection of plants in the eastern region and, most importantly, to conserve plant resources.
Those who are interested in eco-tourism attractions must add the Rayong Botanical Garden to their bucket list. Even with our limited knowledge about the topic, we enjoyed learning about wetlands and local plants.
The Rayong Botanical Garden covers an area of approximately 2,500 rai, with most of the area being wetlands. Having such an ecosystem comes with various benefits such as reducing the erosion of the coast and helping controlling saltwater from taking over the land area.
The Rayong Botanical Garden is a habitat for various animals, birds, and some extremely rare plants. We were told that there are over 400 species of local plants that not easy to find around the world.
The Rayong Botanical Garden has an amphibious tour, which is a combination of land and water excursions, where there will be learning activities on natural tourism, wetlands, and local plants. You also can enjoy ecotourism activities such as cycling and kayaking.
What impressed us a lot is our stop during the boat tour when we put rubber rain boots on to walk on the grass raft, which is made of a pile of grass that is deposited in layers. It is an indescribable feeling to walk on a huge floating grass layer but we surely enjoyed our absolutely new experience. As we learn, the floating grass has long roots that grow 1 meter deep in the water. Also, during the boat tour, you can a wide variety of water birds such as cormorants, beaks, and teal, all perched on the treetops. We didn’t have the best weather during our visit but it was still amazing!

The Rayong Botanical Garden is the perfect destination in Thailand for anyone who likes to study nature or wants to spend time in nature. And even this tourist attraction is just two and half hours drive from Bangkok, not many people visit this nature spot in Rayong. However, we highly recommend exploring the beauty of Thai nature and the Samet millennial forest.
