The Monster Building isn’t actually a single building, but an E-shaped complex composed of five connecting structures: Oceanic Mansion, Fook Cheong Building, Montane Mansion, Yick Cheong Building, and Yick Fat Building. They were built during a population boom in the 1960s to offer government-subsidized housing for low-income residents.
The Yick Fat Building is the most famous block as it was featured in Hollywood movie “Transformers: Age of Extinction”. You may have also seen this complex in the movie “Ghost in the Shell” as well.
The Monster Building is a go-to spot for Instagrammers in Hong Kong, so be prepared for a queue to get the best spot to take a picture. It is actually a residential community and local people literally live in the middle of the tourist attraction (not without complaining, so please think about residents and don’t be noisy).
