Where is your favorite mermaid statue located?🧜
We were so surprised to see MANY mermaids statues during our trip to Koh Samet. We keep asking people why are there so many of them but we had no answer till today. But first things first…
Koh Samet is a small island in Thailand. Due to the proximity to Bangkok and Rayong, local residents and expats like to come to Ko Samet on weekends and holidays.
There are not many special attractions on Koh Samet, since the main attraction of the island is its white beaches with corals. Although we personally liked that the island has a history associated with a mermaid.
According to one of the Thai legends, a giant woman fell in love with a mere mortal. She pretended to be a beautiful girl and was ready to do anything for him, but … the guy was already engaged to a mermaid. When the giant woman knew this, she freaked out and was upset, shed her beautiful appearance, and turned into a giant monster. She walked along the ocean coast, trying to find her beloved … The story ends with the young man making a flute and playing until she died. To remember this strong love, a statue of a giant woman was made on the shore, which welcomes all visitors to Koh Samet.

🇷🇺 Мы были удивлены, увидев сразу несколько статуй русалок на острове Ко Самет. Мы спрашивали людей, почему остров связан с русалками, но до сегодняшнего дня не получали ответа.
Согласно тайской легенде, женщина-гигант влюбилась в простого смертного. Она притворилась красивой девушкой и была готова на все ради него, но … парень уже был помолвлен с русалкой. Когда гигантская женщина узнала об этом, она испугалась и расстроилась, потеряла свой прекрасный облик и превратилась в гигантского монстра. Она гуляла по берегу океана, пытаясь найти своего возлюбленного … История заканчивается тем, что молодой человек стал играть для нее на флейте… до самой ее смерти, чтобу усмерить женщину-гиганта. В память об этой сильной любви на берегу была сделана статуя гигантской женщины, которая приветствует всех посетителей Ко Самета.
