Shinkyo Bridge, Nikko, Japan

The bright red bridge behind us is a worthwhile stopover for those visiting Nikko

As an iconic structure, this sacred bridge looks stunning against the background of the river, the trees and the hills⛰

Legend has it that the hermit who settled Nikko was carried across the river here by two serpents. In feudal times, the sacred bridge could be used only by the emperor🏺

If you want to take a walk across the bridge, there’s an entrance fee you have to pay (~3$). To enjoy viewing the bridge you don’t have to pay actually as you can take a picture or a selfie from the bigger bridge which is used for the road🌝

We’ve visited this bridge on our last day and it was such a beautiful spot to finish exploring Nikko before heading back to Tokyo🚄
