Exploring Mangrove Forest And Taking Boat Tour at Tung Prong Thong (Rayong, Thailand)

There are many wonderful provinces in Thailand. However, Rayong is not too popular but we fall in love with many spots around the region. Rayong has located just 220 km from Bangkok and about 65 km from Pattaya, so capital residents, as well as guests of the popular resort, often come here to relax on weekends.

We would say Rayong is not so well known yet, but every year it becomes more and more attractive for tourists. There are many unique natural attractions, such as thermal springs, spacious beaches, coral reefs, mountain ranges, picturesque waterfalls, virgin rainforests, etc.

We had a chance to explore the famous mangrove forest in Rayong province called Tung Prong Thong. The mangrove forest boardwalk is usually impressed everyone with its uniqueness. Such a forest is good for walking on a sultry day, and to get in touch with nature.

Tung Prong Thong is often called by locals the “eighth wonder of the world”. A very beautiful place, we recommend visiting.

Admission to the Prasae Rayong Mangrove Forest Boardwalk is free, but if you decide to take a boat tour through the mangroves and go out to see the seaside, it will cost you only 50 baht per person. We highly recommend it as it is absolutely unique local experience.

You can also find here more macaques, snakes, flying foxes. On the bald patches, birds are clearly visible, too.

In Thailand, mangrove forests are common, and within a radius of a couple of hundred kilometers from Bangkok, you can find several mangrove zones organized for visiting:

  • in Samut Sakon
  • near Samut Songram (there is a canal not only with a forest but also with monkeys)
  • in Chonburi near Ang Sil
  • in Rayong and further in Chanthaburi
  • on the canals of Bang Krachao (“Green Lungs Of Bangkok”)

There is also a wartime boat in the area, which was occupied by schoolchildren during our visit. For me (Lan), the military boat was not particularly interesting, but Aon was impressed. When you travel around Thailand for some time you started to appreciate the randomness of some tourist spots.

Well-preserved nature, lack of noise, reasonable prices make Rayong province an ideal place for a relaxing family holiday. Although evening entertainment can be found here, the nightlife is not as vibrant as in Bangkok or nearby Pattaya.
